As a busy mother of three young children, there is one thing that I deal with at least four days a week and that is laundry. The other day I decided to do a little math while doing the laundry. I counted and there were 69 pieces of clothing in that particular load including 21 socks. Not sure if it is just my household or if it is this way in all homes with young children, but there is always an odd sock. On occasion though, when I get the laundry out of the dryer, there is a pair of socks that are already matched and folded. Now do I think to myself, “Hmm, I’ve been doing laundry for nearly 12 years now it was bound to happen that I would eventually get a folded pair of socks.” Of course not! The fact that the pair of folded socks nearly always belongs to my three-year-old also adds to the evidence against this being a random happening. She happens to like to help with laundry, and I use the term help loosely. She likes to gather up clothes and put them in the washing machine, and she also likes to push the start button. In her zeal to fill up the washer, she occasionally supplements the dirty clothes with clothes from her drawer. And every few months I get folded socks out of my dryer.  
This folded-sock occurrence got me thinking about evolution. When I was in college getting my degree in chemistry, I spent a lot of time in science classes. With only one or two exceptions, most of my classmates and professors accepted evolution as one of the facts of science. Evolution has so saturated society today that it pops up almost everywhere. I got very frustrated on a recent trip to the Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, when every turn had us smacking into evolution. Nearly all the exhibits and signage proclaimed evolution, and there is even an entire hall devoted to the evolution of man where we can see the transformation of ape to human. All the dinosaur exhibits have signs telling us about the climate and habitat of the dinosaurs, and how the earth looked 65 million years ago. A huge geologic column is set up between displays showing fossil layers and dating the extinction of the dinosaurs at 65 million years ago. In none of the signage or literature is evolution or the age of the earth stated or implied to be anything other than fact. No signs read, “It is theorized that dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago….” A quote from an article about a new exhibit, Blast from the Past, illustrates the phraseology used throughout the museum: “A recently recovered deep-sea core contains convincing new evidence of an asteroid impact 65 million years ago, when dinosaurs went extinct.”  
The problem of evolution isn’t only in museums though. It saturates most forms of media, school textbooks, childcare’s books, television programming, and the Internet. As a mother, I try to screen all television programs my children watch. Before having children, I assumed most children’s programs were pretty benign. In the five years since my oldest was born, I have gotten an abrupt education in just how much the assumptions of evolution have seeped into our society. We like “Sesame Street,” but even that beloved show from my childhood has segments where dinosaurs are introduced as being millions of years old. 
Evolution is one of the most dangerous forms of false doctrine being promulgated in our society today. Evolution allows mankind to group itself in with all other animal life and therefore behave in a similar manner. Evolution discounts not only our Creator, but also the very soul of man. Without an eternity to prepare for and without the goal of spending eternity in Heaven, mankind has lost its way. Let’s be cognizant of this issue so that we can keep our children on track and firmly establish getting to Heaven as their ultimate goal in life. 1 Peter 3:15 exhorts us to “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.” What should be our answer to this doctrine of evolution? We must fight it with Truth. God has given us His Word, but also His creation itself testifies of Him. If we look to nature and truly examine the science of the world around us, we can clearly see that the doctrine of evolution won’t hold water anymore than socks will ever come out of the laundry matched and folded.
