CHALK ONE UP AS A “WIN” FOR CHRISTIANS.
After just a few weeks on the air, NBC canceled its controversial Friday night drama “The Book of Daniel.” Many stations opted not to air the show due to the large volume of objections by viewers. Donald Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association began a grass roots campaign to protest the show, and apparently his efforts worked! Wildmon celebrated the news that low ratings and a lack of revenue (from a dwindling roster of sponsors and reluctant affiliates) had taken a toll on the show that spotlighted an Episcopal priest and his family in various quagmires of promiscuity, homosexuality, alcoholism and drug abuse. The show also featured a “Jesus” who engaged in easygoing dialogue with the priest. Yes, we can make a difference!
IN WHAT CAN ONLY BE CONSIDERED “HOLLYWOOD LOGIC,”
Research shows Hollywood made 12 times as many R-rated movies as G-rated movies from 1989-2003. However, the G-rated movies are more profitable than R rated movies! In fact, a study that was conducted by The Dove Foundation showed that the average G-rated film was 11 times more profitable than its R-rated counterpart. We oftentimes think that money is the bottom line of motivation, but this may be revealing an even more sinister motive— the deliberate promotion of immoral entertainment in hopes of establishing a godless society. Conventional wisdom would indicate that the movie industry would lean itself toward movies that produce the biggest profits. And yet, they continue to inundate America with rubbish. In his 1992 book Hollywood vs. America, Michael Medved found the average PG-rated film performed three times better than the average R-rated film. All the evidence points towards a godless agenda! The U.S. Senate is slated to vote on the Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA) in early June. This constitutional amendment will make marriage between one man and one woman the only legal marriage. We strongly encourage you to write letters, send emails, and make phone calls to your state senators encouraging them to vote in support of the Marriage Protection Amendment Act.
SOME HAVE DESCRIBED THE DISCOVERY AS STUMBLING ACROSS THE “GARDEN OF EDEN.”
While not the garden mentioned in the Bible, this new treasure trove in Papua, New Guinea represents one of the few untouched regions of the world—with no signs of human habitation. The discovery was heralded in all of the major news outlets, primarily because of the diversity of life that was discovered. Rare mammals, exotic plants, and dozens of new species of birds, insects, and amphibians have already been discovered. The team that reported this amazing discovery was dropped into the remote habitat by helicopter and has only touched the hem of the garment in terms of newly discovered diversity. Despite reporters’ hyperbole, this wasn’t Eden, and this “lost world” was never lost. Oftentimes people are lost, but the newly discovered animals knew exactly where they were.
