When referring to \u201cradical feminism,\u201d some\u00a0may\u00a0assume that the term\u00a0radical<\/i>\u00a0is just a pejorative term intended to disparage the philosophy of \u201cfeminism.\u201d\u00a0However,\u00a0that is not the case.\u00a0While feminism seeks to establish and defend economic, political, and social equality for women, radical\u00a0feminism\u00a0seeks to destroy patriarchy.\u00a0<\/span>
\nRadical\u00a0feminism is\u00a0far more\u2026well, radical\u00a0than feminism.\u00a0 Radical feminism\u00a0seeks to expunge\u00a0every expression of\u00a0patriarchy\u00a0within society.\u00a0\u00a0They\u00a0see patriarchy as a systematic\u00a0oppression\u00a0of\u00a0women.\u00a0\u00a0Consequently,\u00a0radical feminists\u00a0seek to destroy\u00a0patriarchy\u00a0by opposing any and all gender-based roles\u00a0within society.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, the radical feminists\u2019 militant opposition to patriarchy has\u00a0actually\u00a0resulted\u00a0in\u00a0misandry (i.e. the hatred of men).\u00a0 Robin Morgan, editor of\u00a0MS Magazine<\/i>\u00a0said, “I feel that ‘man-hating’ is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them”\u00a0(WikiQuote).\u00a0Further,\u00a0Valerie\u00a0Solanas, another\u00a0well-known\u00a0radical feminist said, \u201cTo call a man an animal is to flatter him\u2026\u201d (WikiQuote).\u00a0Surely, one can see that a\u00a0philosophy built on such hatred is self-defeating in the long run. Biology,\u00a0itself, will see to that.\u00a0<\/span>
\nWhile one may not think that such a philosophy could ever gain\u00a0a foothold in our society,\u00a0radical feminists\u2019\u00a0war\u00a0on\u00a0gender\u00a0distinctions\u00a0has had far reaching implications in our society.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nFirst it has denigrated\u00a0and marginalized\u00a0motherhood and homemaking.\u00a0Women who find contentment and fulfillment through homemaking and rearing a family are\u00a0viewed with contempt by radical feminists.\u00a0Vivian\u00a0Gornick, a noted radical feminist said, \u201cBeing a housewife is an illegitimate profession\u2026.\u00a0The choice to serve and be protected and plan towards being a family-maker is a choice that shouldn\u2019t be. The heart of radical feminism is to change that\u201d (The Daily Illini<\/i>, April 25, 1981).\u00a0<\/span>
\nSecond,\u00a0radical feminism seeks to\u00a0redefine the\u00a0structure of the\u00a0home and family, and sadly, they have had much success. In their effort to remove all gender-based roles,\u00a0the institution of marriage has come into focus\u00a0within\u00a0their crosshairs. Radical feminism has\u00a0sought to redefine what constitutes marriage and a family.\u00a0They reason, \u201cWhy should the institution of marriage be defined as heterosexual?\u201d\u00a0\u201cWhy shouldn\u2019t two men or two women be allowed to marry each other?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nOn June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court struck down as unconstitutional the \u201cDefense of Marriage Act\u201d (DOMA),\u00a0which barred the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages legalized by the states. Presently, there are 13 states\u00a0that\u00a0have legalized same-sex marriages, and these marriages are now fully recognized by the federal government as well.\u00a0\u00a0What many fail to realize is that same-sex marriage is not just the agenda of the homosexual community, but also of the radical feminist movement, for it is yet another strike against patriarchy.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThird, radical feminism has attempted to eradicate male spiritual leadership in the church.\u00a0 The radical feminists see the gender-based role distinctions the Bible teaches (e.g. 1 Corinthians 11, 14; 1 Timothy 2, 3; Titus 1) as being oppressive and unfair to\u00a0women. Thus they have sought to reconstruct religious hierarchy to be inclusive of women.\u00a0Sadly, they have been successful\u00a0in this war on gender in this realm too. Consider how many religious bodies in the past thirty years have opened their pulpits and their governing bodies to women that were once closed to them.\u00a0<\/span>
\nIn spite of their\u00a0zeal and their successes, radical feminists are\u00a0misguided.\u00a0They\u00a0fight to remove themselves from what they consider oppression, but fail to comprehend the weight\u00a0of their new-found\u00a0\u201cliberty.\u201d\u00a0Their\u00a0pursuit for equality\u00a0has evolved into a pursuit for\u00a0sameness, which\u00a0can never, nor should ever,\u00a0be achieved.\u00a0As we examine the path, fruits, and legacy of radical feminism, we encourage to you,\u00a0to consider what is has done to our society and even the church. It is our hope that you will teach future generations about these issues, and as always, we hope you will think on these things.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
