the\u00a0drive-in\u00a0movie.\u00a0I can\u2019t tell you anything about the movie\u00a0but I do remember the wonderment of watching a movie on a huge screen with all of us in a car.\u00a0That was my first exposure to the movies.\u00a0Like all of you reading this, we have gone through quite a transition\u00a0from\u00a0what movies were like \u201cback in our day\u201d\u00a0to what we can view today.\u00a0My father and I went on to see a few more movies together,\u00a0and like most dads\u00a0of\u00a0my generation, he\u00a0certainly\u00a0began to miss those Westerns as they faded\u00a0from the screen.\u00a0Today\u00a0seeing a movie at a theater is\u00a0more rare\u00a0due to two factors:\u00a0 One is the higher price, and the other is the availability we have at home\u00a0of watching\u00a0movie channels, the ease of recording\u00a0shows, Netflix, etc.\u00a0All of\u00a0these\u00a0give us even more exposure\u00a0and\u00a0immersion\u00a0into the influence of Hollywood culture.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:432,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nWe all talk about our favorite movies from our past and present\u00a0or\u00a0favorite actors and actresses.\u00a0We have scenes from certain movies burned into our memories\u00a0and lines we can quote.\u00a0Some can\u00a0tell you where and when they saw the first\u00a0<i>Star Wars<\/i>\u00a0movie or what movie made them cry.\u00a0Many can relate a special date to the fact that it was going to the movies together.\u00a0It is hard to escape this influence in our lives.\u00a0Movies began in the early 1900s with silent films\u00a0and moved\u00a0to talking movies around 1930.\u00a0Being born in America any time after this\u00a0means that movies were part of\u00a0one\u2019s\u00a0society and activities.\u00a0To say that the movie industry has not influenced our culture would\u00a0be an understatement.\u00a0A consideration of the homosexual issue would be just one example.\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:432,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nIn the midst of knowing that so many of us have seen, still go to,\u00a0or watch current movies, how do I filter this influence through my allegiance to Jesus Christ?\u00a0How is watching a movie compatible with the Christian faith?\u00a0As we said, only in the last 100 years or so has a Christian been able to ask this question.\u00a0What would Jesus do?\u00a0What should a Christian father decide when determining what his\u00a0child\u00a0or teen\u00a0should watch?\u00a0Can you be \u201cold fashioned\u201d or extreme\u00a0in your views if all the other kids are going, or harder yet, if all the other kids in the youth group are going?<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:432,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nEach Christian family usually comes to some decision on this matter.\u00a0The pendulum may swing to both sides.\u00a0One father may say, \u201cWell, they\u2019re going to see those things and hear those words out in the world, so I really can\u2019t isolate them.\u201d\u00a0Another may look at any rating over a\u00a0\u201cG\u201d\u00a0and eliminate that as an option for his family.\u00a0Then there is the in-between approach that says, \u201cWell there are only a few bad words or just that one bad scene,\u00a0so at least it\u2019s not too bad.\u201d\u00a0I think most Christian parents fall into this\u00a0latter\u00a0category of trying to put some brakes on at times.\u00a0One problem I have always had with the filter we try to place on our kids is that for some reason it does not\u00a0seem to\u00a0apply to us adults.\u00a0I suppose we think\u00a0that\u00a0now that we are grown we can handle the things that make\u00a0a movie have a higher rating.\u00a0I have heard it said, \u201cI just filter\u00a0those things out,\u201d or \u201cIt was a great movie;\u00a0it did have some things I wish were not in there,\u00a0but\u00a0you should go.\u201d\u00a0Honestly, compared to 50 years ago, it is hard to see any movie other than one rated\u00a0\u201cG,\u201d\u00a0that will not have something said, done, or shown\u00a0that a Christian would not approve of.\u00a0Just ask how many of\u00a0us\u00a0would take our grandparents to the last movie\u00a0we\u00a0saw?\u00a0What would they think of it?<span went with you to the movies tonight?\u00a0Which one would you choose?\u00a0Suppose just before you left he said, \u201c\u2019Therefore be imitators of God\u2026but sexual immorality and all impurity\u2026must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.\u00a0Let there be no filthiness,\u00a0nor foolish\u00a0talk, or crude joking, which are out of place.\u00a0For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure\u2026has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.\u00a0Walk as children of\u00a0light\u2026try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.\u00a0Look carefully then how you walk.\u2019\u00a0Okay, let\u2019s go.\u00a0What movie have you picked out that you think I will like?\u201d\u00a0Would it have been the last one you went to see or any others before that?\u00a0\u00a0<span brothers and sisters, we have all been forced to make a decision because\u00a0our culture has made movies a part of our lives.\u00a0Let me recommend\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.screenit.com\/\">www.screenit.com<\/a>\u00a0as a stop\u00a0you always make to decide if you want to take Paul or Jesus with you to the movies.\u00a0Certainly know what is in a movie if you are still deciding this for your own children.\u00a0This website will provide that.\u00a0I can promise you\u00a0the\u00a0Musical\/Comedy\u00a0<i>The\u00a0<\/i><i>Chartroose<\/i><i>\u00a0Caboose<\/i>\u00a0would be appropriate.\u00a0Unfortunately, it has become a \u201clost movie.\u201d\u00a0God help us not to become \u201clost\u201d in this world of outside influences, but to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.<span
