\n\u201cThis is not what I believe at all!\u201d<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>
\nThose eight words tumbled out of an eight-year-old mouth from the back of a third grade classroom.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe students\u00a0had started a\u00a0new science unit that day, and the topic:\u00a0\u201cEvolution.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe first part of the lesson included a discussion about the earth\u2019s age.\u00a0When her teacher\u00a0announced the earth to be around four and a half billion years\u00a0old, something did not sit well with one little girl on the last row.\u00a0This was not what she knew to be true.<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>
\nHer hand shot instinctively up into the air.\u00a0<\/span>
\nWhen her teacher called on\u00a0her,\u00a0my daughter\u00a0gave that\u00a0eight-word rebuttal\u00a0with all the conviction of\u00a0a tender-hearted child\u00a0who loves God.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe teacher invited Evie to come\u00a0up\u00a0to her desk at\u00a0the end of class and\u00a0share\u00a0her thoughts.\u00a0After class,\u00a0at her\u00a0teacher\u2019s desk,\u00a0Evie explained\u00a0that\u00a0God created the world\u00a0and that the earth can only be thousands of years old, according to the Bible.\u00a0<\/span>
\nMy child\u2019s teacher kindly looked into her eyes and said, \u201cI believe in the Bible too, Evie, I just can\u2019t teach that in here.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nFor me,\u00a0as\u00a0a Christian parent, this served as a\u00a0wake-up call.\u00a0The teaching of evolution in our\u00a0public school system is a reality,\u00a0and as my daughter\u2019s teacher relayed this story to me, I realized the necessity\u00a0in providing\u00a0my children with\u00a0Biblical\u00a0answers\u00a0when their belief in creation\u00a0is\u00a0questioned.\u00a0Along with teaching them to\u00a0stand for the\u00a0Truth,\u00a0I\u00a0need to\u00a0also\u00a0empower them with a ready defense.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe indoctrinating of our children with the theory of evolution begins at a very young age.\u00a0I have watched television shows with my children and heard friendly cartoon characters talk about gigantic dinosaurs that roamed the earth \u201cmillions and millions of years ago.\u201d\u00a0I have\u00a0heard monkeys referred to as our \u201cprimate relatives,\u201d\u00a0and chickens described\u00a0as \u201ccousins\u201d of the\u00a0T<\/i>yrannosaurus\u00a0<\/i>r<\/i>ex<\/i>.\u00a0I have read countless excerpts from\u00a0school\u00a0textbooks\u00a0that place\u00a0global events on a billion-year timeline.\u00a0As harmless as these phrases\u00a0may sound in and of themselves,\u00a0they create a foundation in our children\u2019s minds for accepting the humanistic view of the origin of life, a view\u00a0that completely leaves God out of the equation.\u00a0<\/span>
\nOne of my missions\u00a0is to prepare my children so that when they are attacked with the theory of evolution\u00a0they will\u00a0have the ability and the confidence to fight back.\u00a0In order to remain focused\u00a0on this mission, there are three steps I keep in mind as I endeavor\u00a0to effectively arm my children:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Teach\u00a0<\/b>t<\/b>he Truth<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>The first, and most important step\u00a0is to teach my children the\u00a0Truth as it has been delivered to all people\u00a0through the Word of God.\u00a0It is my responsibility to fill them with Bible knowledge.\u00a0As I tell\u00a0them the true story of creation\u00a0and read to them the account of the\u00a0Flood, I am already outfitting them for battle when they are confronted with ideas and theories of evolution.\u00a0Their faith will grow as they hear the Word of God\u00a0(Romans 10:17),\u00a0strengthening\u00a0the shield that will quench the fiery darts thrown at them in the form of scientific \u201cfacts\u201d and humanism.\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Point\u00a0<\/b>o<\/b>ut Error<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>The second step involves \u201ccalling out\u201d ideas related to evolution when I see or hear them being presented to my children.\u00a0I remember watching a cartoon with my children as toddlers, when the main character began a conversation with her young audience about dinosaurs by saying, \u201cMillions of years ago\u2026.\u201d\u00a0Immediately,\u00a0my husband\u00a0called\u00a0out from the kitchen,\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s not what the Bible says!\u201d\u00a0I laughed a little at the unexpected voice that came out of nowhere, but it started a practice in our family\u00a0of \u201ccalling it out when you hear it.\u201d\u00a0We don\u2019t let those little\u00a0snippets\u00a0of error slip by unnoticed.\u00a0We call them on the carpet and then remind each other what the Bible teaches differently.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      1. Give Them a Righteous Defense.<\/b>\u00a0The final step is to give them a factual defense for creationism rooted in\u00a0Scripture and according to the\u00a0Biblical timeline.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        In\u00a0talking with\u00a0Christians about defending creation,\u00a0I have heard these\u00a0statements\u00a0on occasion: \u201cI don\u2019t understand enough about it\u00a0to make a good argument,\u201d\u00a0or \u201cI can\u2019t figure out\u00a0the whole dinosaur thing.\u201d\u00a0I\u00a0have\u00a0also\u00a0been guilty of\u00a0making\u00a0comments\u00a0like those\u00a0and I cannot help but think of the words recorded in\u00a0Hosea 4:6,\u00a0\u201cMy people are\u00a0destroyed for lack of knowledge.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0We have to educate ourselves so that we can help educate our children,\u00a0and in doing that we provide them with hope for the future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
        \nI must realize that my children\u00a0will\u00a0<\/b>be challenged on their belief in creation, and it is my responsibility as a parent to make sure that when it happens they are ready with a logical, factual, biblical defense.\u00a0I do not want to\u00a0let them stand under fire and not have anything to say about why they can\u00a0know<\/b>\u00a0that God is\u00a0the Creator.\u00a0I need to give them something!\u00a0It is essential that they are able to say, \u201cI believe that God created the\u00a0world;\u201d\u00a0it is equally vital that they are able to continue on to say,\u00a0\u201cAnd this is why….\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
        \nI cannot tell you how proud I was of\u00a0Evie\u00a0that day for declaring her disbelief in evolution:\u00a0One small voice speaking out for the\u00a0Truth.\u00a0It leads\u00a0me\u00a0to\u00a0wonder\u2026what if Christians everywhere collectively raised\u00a0our hands and emphatically\u00a0proclaimed\u00a0to those who push the humanistic agenda,\u00a0\u201c<\/b>This is not what\u00a0<\/b>we<\/b>\u00a0believe<\/b>!<\/b>\u201d<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
