\nRalph Waldo Emerson wrote the following,\u00a0\u201cOur chief want in life is somebody who shall make us do what we can.\u201d\u00a0Have you ever considered that you can be that somebody?\u00a0You have the ability to influence the lives of other people for good!\u00a0You have the power to make a difference!\u00a0I look at the world and see a place I can influence for good, and\u00a0I get up each morning with the desire to accomplish this.\u00a0I want to make a difference in the lives of others.\u00a0This belief is at the heart of my faith, goals, and life. You and\u00a0I have the potential to make a difference.\u00a0Take a look at the world around us.\u00a0We have numerous examples of individuals influencing other people.\u00a0Take a walk with me to the past, and let\u2019s examine some individuals who made a difference.\u00a0<\/span>
\nHistory teaches us the impact\u00a0that\u00a0one person can make\u00a0on this world.\u00a0Is it possible to measure the influence\u00a0that\u00a0Winston Churchill had on Great Britain during World War II? Have you ever considered where our nation would be minus the influence of Abraham Lincoln? Can we put into words the impact Martin Luther King Jr. had on race relations and civil rights in America? Can we quantify the difference women such as Eleanor Roosevelt have made throughout time? History has demonstrated time and time again that one person can make a difference.\u00a0<\/span>
\nI have also learned this powerful lesson through sports.\u00a0My childhood is overflowing with memories of athletes leading their teams to championships.\u00a0I still picture Earvin \u201cMagic\u201d Johnson dribbling the ball up the court on a fast break, whipping a no-look\u00a0pass\u00a0to James Worthy for a thunderous dunk.\u00a0I vividly see Joe Montana breaking my heart as he finds Dwight Clark in the back of the end zone for a touchdown leading the 49ers to a victory over my beloved Cowboys.\u00a0One of the most popular athletes of all time is Michael Jordan.\u00a0Jordan performed feats on the court that were breathtaking.\u00a0I followed his career from North Carolina to the last of his six championships with the Chicago Bulls.\u00a0Jordan continually elevated the play of an entire team.\u00a0These athletes along with Sue Bird,\u00a0Larry Bird, Derek Jeter,\u00a0Lisa Fernandez, Roger\u00a0Staubach, and\u00a0Cheryl Miller have proven one person can make a difference.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe Bible also demonstrates the\u00a0impact one person can make on other people.\u00a0We have many examples such as Daniel and Joseph. The Bible describes Noah as a\u00a0righteous man living in a wicked world.\u00a0The world in which Noah lived\u00a0in\u00a0was extremely wicked;\u00a0God looked down on His creation and was grieved that He created humanity.\u00a0In the midst of this darkness, Noah stands out as an example of faith and righteousness.\u00a0Noah\u2019s life influenced his family and all future generations to come.\u00a0Noah made a difference.\u00a0Daniel\u00a0is another man who\u00a0made a difference.\u00a0The story of Daniel concludes with an entire nation respecting and fearing God.\u00a0This didn\u2019t happen by accident\u00a0but because\u00a0Daniel stayed faithful to God through good times and bad.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nNow make this list more personal.\u00a0Who are the people who have influenced your life? Perhaps you are thinking of your mom and your dad.\u00a0Maybe, a coach or teacher impacted your life in a great way.\u00a0Your life has been blessed by the positive influence of others.\u00a0The challenge is for us to return the favor\u00a0to others.\u00a0<\/span>
\nYour influence starts with your family.\u00a0I want you to consider the influence that you have within your family.\u00a0Husbands and wives impact each other in ways that nobody else can.\u00a0Moms and dads have influence on their children\u00a0unmatched by anyone else.\u00a0Don\u2019t ever underestimate the power of your influence.\u00a0You have the ability to influence your family throughout eternity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nGod understands the power of individual influence.\u00a0Joseph saved his family,\u00a0Joshua led a vast nation, and\u00a0the Apostles turned the world upside down!\u00a0God knows the influence you can have on your family.\u00a0I began this article with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.\u00a0I\u2019ll end it with a quote from God\u00a0in Proverbs 22:6.\u00a0\u201cTrain up a child in the way he should go,\u00a0and\u00a0when he is old he will not depart from it.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
