\nSome say that the Bible is an antiquated book:\u00a0a book that\u00a0may have adequately\u00a0met the needs of people living\u00a0a few\u00a0thousand years ago but\u00a0which is\u00a0inadequate to address the needs of modern man.\u00a0Some say that the Bible is ill\u00a0equipped to address many of the moral issues facing society today (i.e. abortion, reproductive choices, drug use, homosexual marriage, etc.).\u00a0After all, where does the Bible\u00a0talk about\u00a0Internet pornography, the\u00a0prom,\u00a0or\u00a0in vitro<\/i>\u00a0fertilization\u00a0from\u00a0today\u2019s culture?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nWhile it\u2019s true there are many modern moral issues that are not explicitly\u00a0named\u00a0in\u00a0Scripture, that\u00a0is not to say that God does not understand us and\u00a0has\u00a0failed\u00a0to give us adequate information to correctly stay on\u00a0the\u00a0path of righteousness.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nWhen I hear people claim the Bible is insufficient to meet modern man\u2019s needs, my first response is to say,\u00a0\u201cAre you sure?\u00a0Have you\u00a0even looked?\u201d\u00a0While certain moral issues\u00a0may not\u00a0be\u00a0explicitly\u00a0mentioned in the Bible\u00a0by name, God has in fact addressed them\u00a0in principle.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe Bible\u00a0contains\u00a0Truths\u00a0that stand as pillars for morality and doctrine.\u00a0These\u00a0Truths are obvious and decisive.\u00a0While there are many explicit commands given in the New Testament, many more truths are taught by principle.\u00a0Jesus, who came to fulfill the Old Law and begin a\u00a0New (Matt. 5:17; Heb. 9:15), taught using a balance of command and principle.\u00a0Consider the Sermon on the Mount.\u00a0As Jesus sets the stage for conceptual learning,\u00a0He repeats the phrase,\u00a0\u201cYou have heard that it was said to them of old\u201d as reminder of the Old Testament commands not to murder or commit adultery.\u00a0He then adds, \u201cBut I say to you\u2026\u201d and broadens the specific command by making it a principle.\u00a0These first century Jews had been taught all their lives not to murder, but Jesus wanted them to broaden that command to\u00a0include\u00a0the principle of not even being angry with someone without a good reason.\u00a0They had been taught not to commit adultery, but He wanted them to\u00a0go further and\u00a0understand the principle of not even looking at someone with lustful thoughts.\u00a0\u00a0In the Old Testament, how can one miss the obvious force and application of the Ten Commandments? Those commandments left no \u201cwiggle room\u201d enabling one to get around what God was trying to communicate.\u00a0Those commandments were cut and dried.\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nFurther, the parables\u00a0that Jesus taught laid\u00a0another paver in the road of conceptual decision assistance. When asked by the disciples why He chose this form of teaching, His response showed His desire for us to look for answers and\u00a0demonstrate our diligent quest for\u00a0Truth.\u00a0He quoted Isaiah and showed there are people who will hear and see the\u00a0Truth but will not understand or\u00a0perceive the correct\u00a0answer.\u00a0God wants people who\u00a0will choose to seek correct answers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe question may still remain:\u00a0Even though God wants me to understand both commands and\u00a0principles, how do I know the Bible can answer\u00a0all\u00a0my questions? While it is true you will not find answers to questions such as,\u00a0\u201cHow much does an iPhone cost?\u201d \u201cWhat is the answer to #6 on\u00a0my math test?\u201d and \u201cIs Pluto a\u00a0planet or not?\u201d the Bible does, in fact, provide\u00a0answers to all questions that pertain to life and godliness.\u00a0Please watch the \u201call inclusive\u201d words used in the following passages.\u00a0\u201cAs His divine power has given to us\u00a0all<\/b>\u00a0things pertaining to life and godliness\u201d\u00a0(2 Peter 1:3).\u00a0God has given us everything we need in the Bible to\u00a0live our lives and\u00a0live them correctly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nHebrews 1:1-2 shows that God spoke in the past to His people in different ways, but now speaks to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.\u00a0How does\u00a0He do that, exactly? Jesus does not whisper in our ears\u00a0to\u00a0give us guidance when we need it.\u00a0He speaks to us through the Bible.\u00a0Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide the thoughts and words of the\u00a0Apostles\u00a0(2 Peter 1:21,\u00a0John 14-16).\u00a0The\u00a0Apostles wrote those words down and we have them.\u00a0These words\u00a0tell us\u00a0\u201call things that pertain to life and\u00a0godliness.\u201d\u00a0These words are \u201call\u00a0truth\u201d\u00a0(John 16:13)..\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cAll\u00a0Scripture has been given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be\u00a0complete, thoroughly\u00a0equipped for\u00a0every\u00a0good work\u201d\u00a0(2 Timothy 3:16-17).\u00a0Rest assured, you have been given everything you truly need in the pages of God\u2019s Word.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
