\nThe American Psychological Association<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nIn 2004,\u00a0the American Psychological Association published a statement in support of homosexual adoption.\u00a0The APA said, \u201cThere is no scientific basis\u00a0for distinguishing between same-sex couples and heterosexual couples with respects to adoption.\u201d1<\/span>\u00a0In their 2004 brief on \u201cLesbian and Gay Parenting,\u201d the APA wrote, \u201cNot a single study has found children of lesbian or gay parents to be disadvantaged in any single significant respect relative to children of heterosexual partners.\u201d2<\/span>\u00a0In 2010 the APA filed an amicus in support of\u00a0a same-sex couple in Florida\u00a0who\u00a0went to court in order to adopt two children.\u00a0The Federal Appeals Court Judge Vaughn Walker ruled in favor of the couple,\u00a0citing statements from the American Psychological Association in support of his decision.3<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe APA used data from 59 published studies in order to come\u00a0to\u00a0its conclusions concerning homosexuals adopting children.4<\/span>\u00a0Unfortunately the APA never reviewed methods used by the researchers in these studies.\u00a0In fact those studies have\u00a0not been properly reviewed until recently.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nSocial Science Research<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe July issue of\u00a0Social Science Research<\/i>\u00a0contains two separate articles that review the methods of the 59 published studies.\u00a0One of the articles was written by Mark Regnerus, who works in the Department of Sociology and Population Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin.\u00a0Loren Marks, who is with Louisiana State Universities School of Human Ecology, wrote the other article.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nLoren Marks concluded the 59 studies named in support of the APA\u2019s position on same-sex adoption were statistically weak.\u00a0Marks points out the small size of each study, the failure to actually look at the condition of those who had been adopted by gay couples, and the fact that none of these same-sex families had been compared to intact heterosexual families made these studies weak.\u00a0After reviewing the 59 studies to which the APA referred, Lauren Marks concluded, \u201cThe available data, which are drawn primarily from small convenience samples, are insufficient to support a strong generalizable claim either way.\u00a0Such a statement would not be grounded in science.\u201d5<\/span>\u00a0Specifically, \u201c\u2026a close examination leads to the conclusion that strong, generalized assertions, including those made by the APA\u00a0brief, were not empirically warranted.\u201d6<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nMark\u00a0Regnerus\u00a0points out similar faults with the studies used by the APA in their research.\u00a0Regnerus\u00a0writes, \u201cConcern has arisen, however, about the methodological quality of many studies focusing on same-sex parents.\u00a0In particular, most are based on non-random, non-representative data often employing small samples that do not allow for generalization to the large population of gay and lesbian families.\u201d7<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe bulk of\u00a0Regnerus\u2019 article deals with the findings of a new and more comprehensive study entitled\u00a0The New Family Structures Study<\/i>.\u00a0A team of several leading family researchers who are from five different universities put this data collection project together.8<\/span>\u00a0The study compared intact biological families to seven other types of family structure including homosexual and lesbian families.\u00a0The results of the study show that \u201cin the vast majority of cases the optimal\u00a0outcome\u2013\u2013where one can readily be discerned\u2013\u2013favors IBFs [Intact Biological Families].\u201d9<\/span>\u00a0Mark\u00a0Regnerus\u00a0concludes his article by pointing out the fact that as the number of intact biological families decreases in the United States, we see \u201cheightened dependence on public health organizations, federal and state public assistance, psychotherapeutic resources, substance use programs, and the criminal justice system.\u201d10<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nBack to the Courts<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nWhat if Judge Walker had known of the problems with the research upon which the APA had based its recommendation?\u00a0Would his ruling have been different?\u00a0What if he had seen the results of The\u00a0New Family Structures Study<\/i>?\u00a0Would he have had second thoughts about the APA\u00a0amicus in support of the homosexual couple adopting the two children?\u00a0We don\u2019t really know the answers to those questions, but what we do know is that his decision was based upon false data.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nGod\u2019s Design<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nGod intends for marriage to be between one man and one woman (Matthew 19:4-6).\u00a0This is His design from the beginning (Genesis 2:18-25).\u00a0The results of\u00a0The New Family Structures Study<\/i>\u00a0show us that God\u2019s way is the best way.\u00a0God\u2019s plan is the one that works best for children\u00a0and for society as a whole.\u00a0Same-sex homes are not good for children despite what the American Psychological Association has said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
