\nOne of the questions that plagues both believers and non-believers is \u201cWhere did I come from?\u201d Deep down we really want to know about our origins. The story commonly recounted by evolutionists is that everything can be explained by naturalistic causes, and thus humans are the result of changes in nature over eons of time. Ultimately, they would point back to the Big Bang as the instigator that kicked off this evolutionary sequence of events.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nWhile that may read well in textbooks, and may even be accompanied by pretty cosmological pictures or a diagram of the\u00a0evolutionary tree of life, the fact remains that this naturalistic explanation has far too many holes.\u00a0It is not logical.\u00a0Where, for instance, did all of the matter for the universe originate? How does one get an ordered universe from a cosmologic explosion? And how exactly can evolution explain the origin of males and females, keeping in mind that whatever alleged organism we evolved from had to be able to reproduce asexually as it was evolving separate males and female parts?\u00a0Simply put, this theory demands an enormous amount of faith\u2014as the evidence does not support it.\u00a0<\/span>
\nA better, more logical explanation is that man came from God\u2014that the creation account in Genesis 1 is an accurate description of our origins.\u00a0We know man exists today, and we know something cannot come from nothing. Therefore man must be the product of an eternal God.\u00a0In fact, if you were to step back away from the issue of \u201cman\u2019s origin,\u201d it becomes clear that everything must have originated from God\u2014even the church.\u00a0<\/span>
\nJesus Christ: The Firm Foundation<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nSo how about\u00a0the church? We know it exists today\u2014so where did it come from? If the church was in God\u2019s plan from the beginning, then obviously His church has origins all the way back to God.\u00a0Remember God had\u00a0a plan to save men from the beginning. That plan was based\u00a0on Jesus Christ acting as the sacrificial lamb for the sins of mankind\u00a0and conquering death. Jesus Christ is the foundation of the church. Paul declared:\u00a0<\/span>
\nAccording to the grace of\u00a0God which was given to me, as a wise master builder\u00a0I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on\u00a0it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid,\u00a0which is Jesus Christ<\/b>\u00a0(1 Corinthians 3:10-11, emp. added).\u00a0<\/span>
\nWithout Him\u00a0and His resurrection,\u00a0there would be no need to worship.\u00a0In that same letter\u00a0Paul\u00a0wrote,\u202f\u201c<\/b>And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching\u00a0is\u00a0empty and your faith\u00a0is\u00a0also empty\u2026\u202f<\/b>And if Christ is not risen, your faith\u00a0is\u00a0futile; you are still in your sins!\u201d (1 Corinthians 15:14,17).\u00a0Clearly Christ is at the center of our answer regarding the origin of the church.\u00a0<\/span>
\nBut where did the church actually come from? Evolutionists claim that man stood uprightly and first walked across the plains of Africa. They contend that this was the location of man\u2019s origins. If we were to try to pinpoint the location for the origin of the church,\u00a0where would that pin reside?\u00a0<\/span>
\nChrist, speaking in\u00a0Luke 24:46-47,\u00a0<\/b>said: \u201cThus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in\u00a0His name among all nations,\u00a0beginning at Jerusalem<\/b>.\u201d Quite simply, Christ informed us that the church was to begin in Jerusalem\u00a0(remember the prophecy given in Isaiah 2:1-4?;\u00a0see also\u00a0Zechariah\u00a08:3). The beginning of the church can be traced all the way back to Peter\u2019s first sermon that he preached on the\u00a0Day of Pentecost in the city of Jerusalem (Acts 2).\u00a0Thus, any church that had its origins in America, England, or any other place beside Jerusalem\u00a0and was not founded during the lifetime of individuals who walked with Jesus (Mark 9:1)\u00a0is not\u00a0the<\/b>\u00a0church being discussed by Christ.\u00a0Recall the words of David in Psalm 127:1 when he wrote, \u201cUnless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe origin of man did not start in some primordial soup in Africa. It started in the Garden of Eden, with a man and woman named Adam and Eve. If you believe that, and recognize the importance of that, then you will also realize the foundation of the church started in Jerusalem and is founded on Jesus Christ. Any other option does not agree with God\u2019s Word.\u00a0Jesus Christ is the foundation of the church\u2014if your church is founded on anything else,\u00a0then you need to find a different church!\u00a0<\/span>
\nJesus Christ: The\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Only\u00a0<\/i><\/b>Founder<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nI love\u00a0the apostle\u00a0Peter. I think the reason I love him so much is that\u00a0in many ways\u00a0he reminds me of myself\u2014occasionally very brash,\u00a0sticking his foot in his mouth, and all too often showing that he is just another\u00a0frail human. But occasionally he gets it right!\u00a0Really right.\u00a0Jesus asked the question:\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u201cWho do men say that I, the Son of Man, am? \u201dSo they said, \u201cSome\u00a0say\u00a0John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.\u201d\u00a0<\/b>He said to them, \u201cBut who do you say that I am?\u201d Simon Peter answered and said, \u201cYou are the Christ, the Son of the living God\u201d (Matthew 16:13-16).\u00a0<\/span>
\nIn this instance, Peter nailed it!\u00a0<\/span>
\nAfter Peter recognized Jesus as the Son of God, Jesus proclaimed: \u201cAnd I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build\u00a0My<\/b>\u00a0church<\/b>, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it\u201d (Matthew 16:18, emp. added). The word \u201cMy\u201d is possessive\u2014meaning this will be the church that Jesus builds and that belongs to Him.\u00a0<\/span>
\nConsider for a moment if you belonged to a group known as \u201cThe People\u2019s Church.\u201d How does that fit in with the\u00a0reality that Jesus built a church and it belongs to Him?\u00a0If it\u00a0is\u00a0His possession,\u00a0wouldn\u2019t you want to be included in it?\u00a0The time has come for many people to take a sobering look at where they worship and ask themselves, \u201cAm I a member of His church or\u00a0am I a member of a church founded by men that belongs to men?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

God or Man\u2014Who\u00a0<\/i>A<\/i>dds\u00a0<\/i>Y<\/i>ou<\/i>?<\/i>\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I was a young boy,\u00a0I can remember sitting\u00a0on hard wooden pews\u00a0listening as the preacher\u00a0announced\u00a0new families who wanted to \u201cjoin the church.\u201d\u00a0This happy occasion was often combined with a formal oath that was given to the family before they were officially admitted:\u00a0\u201cWill you be loyal to the\u00a0Xxxx\u00a0Xxxx\u00a0Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nAs we consider the concept of \u201corigins,\u201d\u00a0the question\u00a0arises, from whence did this oath\u00a0originate? Having read Acts 2, this\u00a0ritual and belief system seem\u00a0alien to me today. The last verse of this chapter leaves little doubt as to how one obtains membership to the church. \u201c\u2026And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved\u201d (Acts 2:47). One does not \u201cjoin the church,\u201d but rather\u00a0one is\u00a0added\u00a0to it by Almighty God.\u00a0Look at that passage again\u2014it is there, but for many years I had never given it much thought.\u00a0<\/span>
\nA close inspection of Acts 2 reveals that this notion of \u201cjoining a church\u201d is not found in the Bible. We learn in verse 5: \u201cAnd there were\u00a0dwelling at Jerusalem<\/b>\u00a0Jews, devout men, out of every nation under\u00a0Heaven\u201d\u2014indicating that the events taking place were occurring in Jerusalem. Verse 14 states: \u201cBut Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, \u2018Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words.\u2019\u201d\u00a0Peter thus had begun to preach the first Gospel sermon in Jerusalem. Verse 41 indicates: \u201cThey that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.\u201d Three thousand people! Can you imagine the joy and the excitement on that occasion?\u00a0Verses 46-47 inform us: \u201cThey, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. And\u00a0the<\/b>\u00a0Lord added to the church daily<\/b>\u00a0such as should be saved.<\/b>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf you are considering the origins of the church,\u00a0this\u00a0concept of the \u201cLord adding\u201d\u00a0should make sense. It was in the plan before the creation of the world. The foundation of the church is Jesus Christ and He serves as the Founder. He built His church. It is God alone who can add us to that church. We cannot just arbitrarily select to \u201cjoin\u201d His church. Consider what would happen if we didn\u2019t hold to His Truths and His commands?!\u00a0It is only after we comply in obedience to Him that we find ourselves as eligible candidates for Him to add us into the church.\u00a0<\/span>
\nConclusion<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nIn Paul\u2019s first letter to Timothy he observed, \u201cBut if I am delayed,\u00a0I write\u00a0so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the\u00a0church of the living God<\/b>, the pillar and ground of the truth\u201d (1 Timothy 3:15, emp. added). The church belongs to God and is the pillar and ground of Truth!\u00a0Just as man has a true and logical origin, so does the church. Man was created by God to serve His purpose. Likewise, so was the church. Men who would fight tooth and nail against alleged fossil men will blindly embrace a church whose\u00a0origins do not fit the Bible. Isn\u2019t it time we find the right foundation, founder, and membership?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
