\nWe live in a highly \u201cgerm-conscious\u201d country.\u00a0I worry about my kids every day\u00a0while they are in\u00a0school, hoping they are routinely using the mini anti-bacterial gel I bought to keep in their backpacks.\u00a0They\u2019ve been educated on performing the \u201celbow cough\u201d and are familiar with the words\u00a0vaccination<\/i>,\u00a0infection<\/i>,\u00a0virus<\/i>,\u00a0contagious<\/i>,\u00a0and\u00a0bacteria<\/i>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nAs a nurse, germs are certainly on the forefront of my mind every time I set foot in the hospital.\u00a0There, I have access to alcohol foam for my hands, protective equipment for my head and body, and anti-bacterial soap with no shortage of sinks for washing.\u00a0I also have the option of wiping\u00a0down my shopping cart at the grocery store\u00a0with the newly provided sanitizing wipes before actually making bare-hand contact and can find an available squirt bottle of hand-sanitizer\u00a0just\u00a0about everywhere I go.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nPeople live in fear of illness and take great measures to prevent themselves and their children from acquiring infections\u2026and I\u2019m right there with them.\u00a0My personal feeling is, if I can keep my kids from getting sick then I\u2019m going to do whatever it takes!\u00a0<\/span>
\nThen I had one of those moments last week.\u00a0One of those soul-searching moments when\u00a0I become acutely aware of my humanity and the\u00a0\u201cWhat is my purpose here on the earth?\u201d\u00a0thought comes tearing through my mental list of things to do for the day.\u00a0Although they can be uncomfortable at times, I try to embrace these moments as reminders to set not my heart on things of this world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nOn this occasion, for some reason, my mind drifted to hand sanitizer.\u00a0I began to consider the lengths that I go to ensure the physical health of my children and weighed that against the actions I take to ensure the spiritual health of my children.\u00a0I make sure the anti-bacterial gel is accessible to them while they are at school, but what am I giving them to counter the attack on their hearts and minds as they are exposed to evil in the world?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nI would like to make an \u201cAnti-Bad-Material\u201d\u00a0motion! I move that we do some serious\u00a0soul-sanitizing! I think we do that by offsetting the corruption of the world upon ourselves with thoughts that are positive and uplifting.\u00a0Creating a temple where we would be proud for Jesus to\u00a0live.\u00a0This may involve throwing over some tables of habit or driving out bad company, and to do this, you might have to let yourself get angry!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nBe mad at the fact that the devil is looking for opportunities to weaken your faith;\u00a0let it offend you that he wants to infect your family;\u00a0get enraged over the influence of sin on your children\u2026and then grab your Bible! Read for your own strength and\u00a0then\u00a0teach\u00a0your children.\u00a0Tell them the\u00a0account\u00a0of Esther, then tell them about David, about Paul, about Joseph, about the prophets,\u00a0about Jesus\u2026fill\u00a0them up with\u00a0the Word!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nThen\u00a0pray.\u00a0Pray to\u00a0increase your own faith and\u00a0then\u00a0teach your children.\u00a0Demonstrate to your children how they can talk to God, not just before meals, not just before bed, not just when waking in the morning, but throughout the\u00a0day, for any reason!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nThen sing.\u00a0Sing for your own joy and\u00a0then\u00a0teach your children.\u00a0Show them the happiness you can feel by singing praise songs from your heart and how a good song can lift the\u00a0spirit! Give your family the supplies they need to fight off the \u201cBad-Material\u201d that threatens their spiritual immune systems all day long.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nEvidently, Paul knew the importance of\u00a0soul-sanitizing\u00a0and provided a list of ingredients for the ideal \u201cAnti-Bad-Material\u201d product.\u00a0Through inspiration Paul tells the Philippian Christians to \u201cmeditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report,\u00a0virtuous, and praiseworthy\u201d\u00a0(Philippians 4:8): godly qualities that will stand up against the plague of immorality.\u00a0We need to stock up on these things, search for them daily, and provide them to our children, so that we all can be mentally prepared when exposed to sin or temptation.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThere is no vaccination\u00a0on earth equal to the peace found in God:\u00a0a peace that is impossible to understand but that we can know will guard our hearts and minds through\u00a0Christ\u00a0Jesus (Philippians\u00a04:7).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
