At Focus Press we frequently disseminate information on both topics, as we believe that Christians should be thoroughly informed on both. This month,\u00a0we want to put a\u00a0mutual spotlight on religion and politics and demonstrate\u00a0that the two\u00a0issues\u00a0sometimes overlap.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nSeveral decades ago war was announced on Christian families. Sadly, this battle cry went mostly unheeded. Sermons were preached, and articles were written\u2014however, the main response was for Christians to bury their heads in the sand and hope it all went away. So for many years Christians remained silent, while the vocal minority radically changed our culture. We have\u00a0awakened\u00a0to find ourselves living in a nation that is openly embracing abominations to God.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nFor instance, on May 9, 2012,\u00a0President Barak Obama announced to the world that he now supports same-sex marriage. For the first time in the history of our nation,\u00a0we have the leader of the free world embracing something that God has deemed as an abomination. Ironically, this is not the same position he campaigned on. In 2008, during\u00a0an interview with Rick Warren (denominational author of\u00a0<i>A Purpose Driven Life<\/i>), then Senator Obama defined marriage as between one man and one woman. During that interview Obama noted that marriage was a sacred union in which God was a factor.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nIn August of this year,\u00a0the national Democratic Party&#8217;s platform committee voted to add same-sex marriage to their platform.\u00a0In addition to endorsing\u00a0same-sex marriage for the first time,\u00a0they also\u00a0called for the repeal of a federal law that recognizes\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/topics\/marriage\/\">marriage<\/a>\u00a0as between one man and one woman\u2014an effort that undoubtedly was to appeal to new voters. This same party also endorses abortion\u2014something that God hates (see Proverbs 6:16-17).<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nIt is not our job to tell you who to vote for, as we live in a free country and thankfully we still have the ability to select our elected officials. However, we do want to remind people that there are moral issues that are clearly abominations to God. As\u00a0Christians, we must set aside specific party affiliations, and instead we must defend God\u2019s\u00a0Truth!<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nHaving grown up in the\u00a0South, I am keenly familiar with\u00a0phrases like \u201cyellow dog.\u201d I have also studied American history enough to know that my grandparents\u2019\u00a0generation\u00a0elevated men like Franklin D. Roosevelt on a pillar, as he was able to help farmers and\u00a0was instrumental at pulling the American economy out of the Great Depression. As such, many families have voted for Roosevelt\u2019s party for 2-3 generations, without giving any consideration to the issues of morality. Without question the political parties in America have changed. As mentioned above,\u00a0their platforms have changed. Aside from wearing the same name,\u00a0the\u00a0party my grandfather routinely voted for looks nothing like that\u00a0same\u00a0party today.\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nWe grant that there is no perfect party or candidate.\u00a0All of them have flaws or issues that should be corrected. We also will freely grant that our political system is \u201cbroken\u201d and needs a lot of fixing. We recognize that there is a \u201cgood\u00a0ol\u2019\u00a0boy\u201d system in place that our Founding Fathers never intended.\u00a0We also will quickly\u00a0acknowledge\u00a0that no one running for\u00a0President is a New Testament Christian.\u00a0(In other words there is not a \u201cgreat\u201d choice.)\u00a0But in this issue of\u00a0<i>Think<\/i>\u00a0we want to ask the question: What if Jesus were\u00a0President? What policy changes would we see and what issues would be important to Him?<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559738&quot;:120,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nApproximately 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ was convicted for you. We believe it is time to show that we are convicted for Him.\u00a0We believe it is time to let our voices be heard again. Focus Press is a non-profit organization, and thus we cannot endorse a particular candidate. However, we can encourage Christians to vote for individuals who do not embrace\u00a0Biblical abominations to God.\u00a0\u201cRighteousness exalts a nation, but sin\u00a0is\u00a0a reproach to\u00a0any\u00a0people\u201d (Proverbs 14:34).\u00a0We believe the time has come for the Christians in this nation to\u00a0let the world know that we were not going to be silent anymore.
