\nFor the people of God, a continual frustration is having leaders who seem to have no genuine relationship with God. Oh sure, they \u201ctalk the talk.\u201d\u00a0They say the right things.\u00a0They get photo ops of them going to some denominational church.\u00a0Maybe there will even be a shot or two of their praying with bowed heads.\u00a0But far too frequently what is seen in the daily\u00a0operations\u00a0of government\u00a0is clearly\u00a0foreign to\u00a0Biblical Christianity.\u00a0Imagine, though, what it would be like if Jesus Himself were\u00a0in the\u00a0Oval\u00a0Office in the White House.\u00a0How would He treat the people under His charge?\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf Jesus were President<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0He would<\/b>\u00a0put the will of the Father first and foremost<\/b>, knowing that God<\/b>\u2019s<\/b>\u00a0will is for the ultimate good of all mankind<\/b>.\u00a0Jesus frequently said in His earthly ministry that His primary focus was to do the will of God\u00a0(John\u00a04:34;\u00a05:30; 6:38).\u00a0Decisions of state would be made under the filter of God\u2019s divine laws.\u00a0Therefore He would not allow the whims and desires of men to override divine principles.\u00a0Any new law proposed by\u00a0Congress would be vetoed if it stood in violation of God\u2019s\u00a0Word.\u00a0Jesus would operate on the principle that \u201crighteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people\u201d (Proverbs\u00a014:34).\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf Jesus were President<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0He w<\/b>ould have a foreign policy with\u00a0<\/b>the best interests of all of nations in mind<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>His love for all men would be the overriding emphasis on international affairs.\u00a0There would be humane relief efforts for nations hit by natural disasters.\u00a0Yet His interest in other nations would be primarily to save their souls.\u00a0The Bible teaches that there is\u00a0\u201cnone righteous\u201d (Romans\u00a03:9), and that \u201call have sinned and fall short of the glory of God\u201d (Romans\u00a03:23).\u00a0Therefore every nation would need to learn how to deal with sin.\u00a0As Jesus demonstrated in His earthly ministry, He came \u201cto seek and save\u00a0that which was lost\u201d (Luke\u00a019:10), and that He \u201ccame into the world to save sinners\u201d (1 Timothy\u00a01:15).\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf Jesus were President<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0He would<\/b>\u00a0confront and oppose evil government officials<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>In His earthly ministry Jesus frequently confronted the Jewish leaders\u00a0who\u00a0were poor examples\u00a0(Matthew\u00a023:3) and who established laws\u00a0that\u00a0enslaved the people and made them miserable\u00a0(Matthew\u00a023:4; Luke\u00a011:46; cf. 11:28-30).\u00a0Centuries before King Solomon observed how men with power frequently abuse that power to the hurt of many others (Ecclesiastes\u00a04:1; 5:8; 8:9).\u00a0Jesus would have a complete grasp of the power afforded Him as President and would use that power\u00a0for good and\u00a0to prevent or minimize the impact of evil officials.\u00a0On frequent occasion Jesus confronted the ungodly leadership of the scribes and Pharisees (Matthew\u00a023:13-36).\u00a0He held them accountable for their actions, and He would do the same as President.\u00a0He would not tolerate anyone, including those in His own political party, to lie, cheat, or live immoral lives.\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf Jesus were President<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0He would treat people with compassion and kindness<\/b>.\u00a0During His earthly ministry, Jesus frequently was \u201cmoved with compassion.\u201d When\u00a0He saw people suffering, He reached out to them and healed them (cf. Matthew\u00a04:23-24; 9:35-36).\u00a0When they were hungry, He provided food for them (14:14-21; 15:32-38).\u00a0Yet Jesus\u2019 welfare program would be far different than the socialist program being promoted today.\u00a0Jesus inspired the apostle Paul to say quite clearly, \u201cIf anyone will not work, neither let him eat\u201d (2 Thessalonians\u00a03:10).\u00a0The idea of perpetual handouts to those lazy and unwilling to work would stop.\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf Jesus were President<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0He would protect human life<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>The Bible clearly identifies the value of each person.\u00a0Mankind was the crowning act of God\u2019s creation, and man is the only creature made in God\u2019s image (Genesis\u00a01:26).\u00a0God established early that the taking of another\u2019s life had severe consequences.\u00a0As a matter of fact, God declared:\u00a0\u201cWhoever sheds man\u2019s blood,\u00a0by man his blood shall be shed.\u00a0For in the image of God\u00a0He made man\u201d\u00a0(Genesis\u00a09:6).\u00a0Every soul is precious in the eyes of God, and Jesus would certainly enact policy that would protect each\u00a0innocent\u00a0person\u00a0and punish each guilty person.\u00a0Therefore there is no way that Jesus, as President, could support or allow any law that would allow one person to terminate the life of another who is innocent.\u00a0This\u00a0undoubtedly\u00a0would be the case when it comes to abortion.\u00a0Abortion is the termination of a human life.\u00a0Certainly Jesus would not yield to the foolish arguments that a child in the womb is not yet a person; nor would\u00a0He subscribe to the ridiculous notion that a \u201cwoman has a right over her own body\u201d to the extent that she can terminate a precious life within her.\u00a0In addition, there is no way that\u00a0He would approve of clinics that perform abortions, nor\u00a0allow government funds to pay for it!\u00a0<\/span>
\nIf Jesus were President<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0He would oppose homosexuality<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>In the Old Testament homosexuality was considered by God to be an \u201cabomination\u201d (Leviticus\u00a018:22).\u00a0In the New Testament Jesus inspired the apostle Paul to make four observations about homosexuality. He said it\u00a0is\u00a0\u201cdegrading,\u201d \u201cunnatural,\u201d \u201cindecent\u201d and an \u201cerror\u201d (Romans\u00a01:26-27).\u00a0Therefore, it is no surprise that Paul says that homosexuals shall not \u201cinherit the kingdom of God\u201d (1 Corinthians\u00a06:9).\u00a0With these clear verses, there is no way that Jesus as President would come out and announce support for gay marriage or the gay lifestyle.\u00a0He would openly support God\u2019s original plan for marriage: one man with one woman for life (Matthew\u00a019:4-6).\u00a0<\/span>
\nConclusion<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>
\nIt is clear that the person, character, ethics,\u00a0and morals of Jesus would separate Him from the politicians we see today.\u00a0How refreshing it would be to have a man leading this nation that was inflexible when it came to the laws of God, who could be trusted always, who had the best interests of all of mankind in continual view.\u00a0<\/span>
\nOf course, only Jesus was perfect.\u00a0No man, including no politician, is without sin (Romans\u00a03:9, 23).\u00a0Yet is there any reason for a man afforded the honor of leading the United States to not be a man of the highest character and morality? He should be a man who, as stated earlier, \u201cis inflexible when it comes to the laws of God, who could be trusted always, and who has the best interests of all of mankind in continual view.\u201d He should be a man not afraid to confront the evils of society (like Jesus did), to defend the innocent\u2013\u2013including the unborn.\u00a0We have the right to desire a man who is truly a Christian:\u00a0one who wholeheartedly follows the Gospel of Christ.\u00a0<\/span>
