\nThe Bible makes it clear that we are to make wise,\u00a0healthy choices as Christians.\u00a0Jean-Paul\u00a0Sarte\u00a0is credited with saying \u201cWe are our choices.\u201d\u00a0The family you have today has developed through the choices\u00a0you\u2019ve made\u00a0together!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\nSolomon writes in Proverbs 4:25-27,\u00a0\u201cLet your eyes look directly forward,\u00a0and your gaze be straight before you.\u00a0Ponder the path of your feet;\u00a0then all your ways will be sure.\u00a0Do not swerve to the right or to the left;\u00a0turn your foot away from evil.\u201d\u00a0That kind of life is what I desire for my children to live.\u00a0It\u2019s the kind of life that has purpose, direction,\u00a0and pure actions.\u00a0The question we need to ask is, \u201cAs a parent, have I given my family the tools\u00a0they need\u00a0to make the best choices in this difficult life?\u201d\u00a0When we have our values in place, only then can we make the right decisions.\u00a0Hopefully the following questions can help your family establish their values and standards when they are faced with life\u2019s difficult choices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. What does the Bible say?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cHis divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who\u00a0called us to His own glory and excellence\u201d\u00a0(2 Peter 1:3).\u00a0Does my family dig into God\u2019s Word to find the answers of life and seek divine guidance?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Would my Lord do it?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cHe who says he abides in Him ought himself\u00a0also to walk just as He walked\u201d (1\u00a0John 2:6).\u00a0The fact is, when\u00a0we\u00a0walk, talk, think,\u00a0and breathe Jesus, our choices will reflect\u00a0Him!\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Am I being a good example?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cLet no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity\u201d\u00a0(1\u00a0Timothy 4:12, ESV).\u00a0\u201cYou are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.\u00a0Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.\u00a0In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that\u00a0<\/span>they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in\u00a0Heaven\u201d\u00a0(Matthew 5:14, ESV).\u00a0Do my family\u2019s\u00a0choices encourage others to go to\u00a0Heaven<\/li>\n
  4. Would I want everyone to know I did it?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cFor nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light\u201d\u00a0(Luke\u00a08:17, ESV).\u00a0We are children of light,\u00a0and our choices should be open for all to see.<\/li>\n
  5. Could it hurt my body?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cOr do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?\u00a0<\/span>You are not your own,\u00a0for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body\u201d\u00a0(1 Corinthians 6:19-20, ESV).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Would I want it done to me?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cAnd as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them\u201d\u00a0(Luke 6:31, ESV).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Is it putting God first?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cBut seek first the kingdom of God and\u00a0His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you\u201d\u00a0(Matthew\u00a06:33).\u00a0\u201cAnd whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through\u00a0Him\u201d\u00a0(Colossians 3:17, ESV).\u00a0Is God honored in every area of my family?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Might it be wrong?<\/b>\u00a0\u201cBut test everything; hold fast what is good.\u00a0Abstain from every form of evil\u201d\u00a0(1\u00a0Thessalonians 5:21-22).\u00a0<\/b>If it bothers your conscience,\u00a0your family might need to take more time to pray about it before doing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
