I was pushing her over to recover. She saw the wall phone and she said, \u201cCan you\u00a0<\/span>take me to the phone? I need to call my mom.\u201d I said \u201csure.\u201d I took her there and she\u00a0<\/span>called her mother, and she just started weeping. Her weeping turned into wailing. And\u00a0<\/span>that turned into something that I\u2019ve never heard before. I mean it came from here\u00a0<\/span>[points to lower abdomen], not from her arms or her chest. <\/span><\/p>\n

And I\u2019ve never felt so sorry\u00a0<\/span>for anyone in my whole life as I did for that girl in that moment. When I wheeled her\u00a0<\/span>away I kind of felt that I was responsible. And as I was wheeling her away she cried\u00a0<\/span>out: \u201cTell him to stop!\u201d I had stood there in procedure with her, and had held her hand\u00a0<\/span>during the whole procedure. And so I looked down at her and said: \u201cHoney, the procedure\u00a0<\/span>is over. There is no baby.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

And this monstrous wailing erupted. Once you\u2019ve\u00a0<\/span>heard it you\u2019ll never forget it.\u00a0<\/span>I advised her about the usual things you tell a woman after you have an abortion procedure,\u00a0<\/span>and she just laid there. Very non-responsive; I mean, every now and then I\u00a0<\/span>would touch to see if she was O.K., and she would just flinch a little. I probably stayed\u00a0<\/span>at the abortion clinic until 2:00 that morning trying to get her to come out. Because you\u00a0<\/span>could tell that she was going in. She had so much frustration, so much grief, that it was\u00a0<\/span>penetrating her soul. When \u2018Helen\u2019 came in she was full of vitality and joy; afterward\u00a0<\/span>there was no \u2018Helen\u2019 left.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those were the words of Norma McCorvey\u2014better known as Jane Roe of the infamous\u00a0<\/span>Roe v. Wade case. She went on to lament the fact that no one is reporting the\u00a0<\/span>psychological damage that is being done to young women who are \u201cchoosing\u201d abortion.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cRoe\u201d was the anonymous name given to Norma, lead plaintiff in a court case\u00a0<\/span>that would forever change her life. \u201cWade\u201d was Henry Wade, the District Attorney of\u00a0<\/span>Dallas County who was fighting to keep abortion illegal in this country. <\/span><\/p>\n

We recently\u00a0<\/span>spent several hours with this remarkable woman who had gone from working in abortion\u00a0<\/span>clinics to now protesting outside their doors.\u00a0<\/span>Jane Roe is truly \u201cRoe no more.\u201d She\u00a0<\/span>is an active defender of life. The truths she shared were raw and mind-shattering. We\u00a0<\/span>invite you to learn more about this lady who signed her name on the affidavit, and went\u00a0<\/span>down in history as \u201cthe woman who made abortion legal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Changing the Course of History<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

FP: How did you get involved initially? Did they contact you\u00a0<\/span>or did you seek them out?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: I found myself pregnant for the third time, second time out of wedlock. I went to\u00a0<\/span>one doctor, and told him I wanted an abortion. I didn\u2019t know what it was. I didn\u2019t know\u00a0<\/span>what it meant, but I wanted one. Kind of like he could just put it in a package and I\u2019d be\u00a0<\/span>outta there…. I just knew I didn\u2019t want to have the baby. I took a bunch of drugs. I threw\u00a0<\/span>myself down a flight of stairs. I\u2019d thrown myself in front of moving traffic. I mean, I did\u00a0<\/span>not want to have this child. I even went to a place they called an illegal abortion clinic.\u00a0<\/span>I don\u2019t know if it was an abortion clinic or not, because I didn\u2019t stay around that long.<\/span><\/p>\n

Realizing that her child was going to be born into this world, she finally talked her physician\u00a0<\/span>into giving her the name of an attorney that dealt in adoptive\/foster cases. This\u00a0<\/span>lawyer listened to Norma and then introduced her to two people who would change\u00a0<\/span>her life forever.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: To make a long story short, I met with Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, and\u00a0<\/span>they\u2014how do I say this, they upset me. They said, \u201cOh Norma, don\u2019t you realize that\u00a0<\/span>women drive cars, Oh Norma don\u2019t you realize that women get to smoke in public. Oh\u00a0<\/span>Norma don\u2019t you know that women get to vote.\u201d I finally told them, \u201cHey look, I just\u00a0<\/span>came for the pizza and beer, because I was hungry.\u201d I met with them three or four times.\u00a0<\/span>I signed the affidavit that brought Roe. Vs. Wade into being on March 17, 1970,\u00a0<\/span>and I found out about Roe. Vs. Wade just like everyone else did. I read it in\u00a0<\/span>the newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Excuse me, are you telling me you were not aware that it was going on\u2014that it had\u00a0<\/span>been sent to the Supreme Court?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: I was a paint contractor. I worked for HUD properties, so I was busy making a living.\u00a0<\/span>I didn\u2019t care about women voting. I didn\u2019t care about them smoking in their cars and\u00a0<\/span>driving, or climbing the glass ceiling.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Did you ever attend courtroom sessions?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: No. Never.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many people believe that Jane Roe was a devout feminist\u2014a fighter for women. She\u00a0<\/span>is often portrayed as a radical feminist who expanded the borders for women\u2019s rights.\u00a0<\/span>The truth was she was simply trying to make a living. She told us: \u201cI was more involved\u00a0<\/span>with the Vietnam War efforts than I was equal rights or ERA or anything like that.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Having indulged in the free pizza she signed her name to an affidavit, and forever\u00a0<\/span>changed the course of American history.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Life at an Abortion Clinic<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Norma conveyed to us that she was a big believer in tough love. She noted: \u201cI used to\u00a0<\/span>stand in abortion clinics and run blood tests and pregnancy tests. And I would stand\u00a0<\/span>there with the patients to my back and they would tell me why they were having this\u00a0<\/span>abortion. And I would just turn around and say: \u2018You owe me no excuses. You came\u00a0<\/span>here of your own free will.\u2019\u201d But seeing it day-after-day, Norma quickly realized that\u00a0<\/span>abortion was not just a medical procedure used during incidents of rape or injury to the\u00a0<\/span>mother. It was being used extensively for birth control.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: I\u2019ve had women come up to me and thank me for their abortions. I say: \u201cWhat do\u00a0<\/span>you mean? How many abortions have you had?\u201d \u201cOh seven or eight, who counts?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>I had another woman who came into a doctor\u2019s office. She said she had had some sort\u00a0<\/span>of test and she found out she was going to have a little girl and she wanted a little boy.\u00a0<\/span>So why have a baby at all?<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: So, because she didn\u2019t get the right gender….<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Yeah, that\u2019s gender selection. You know, you hear about these things. You read\u00a0<\/span>about these things, but you never think you are going to meet it face-to-face.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: What did you see in your experience with women,\u00a0<\/span>as far as changes, depression, mental, etc.?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: You have to understand that I had them right before their abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: So they\u2019re O.K., the world is still rosy.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Some of them are nervous. Some of them are scared. Some of them don\u2019t really\u00a0<\/span>care. But mostly what I would see, after they came out of procedure is limp, vegetated\u00a0<\/span>human beings, in which the lights are on but nobody\u2019s home.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Norma, would you mind telling us what you saw when you were working?\u00a0<\/span>Most people who are going to be reading this have no idea what goes on.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Have you ever just taken a whole fryer chicken and cut it up? And put all the\u00a0<\/span>pieces in a bag and place some of those pieces back in the freezer. What\u2019s left on the\u00a0<\/span>counter? That\u2019s what an aborted baby looks like. I mean that\u2019s the nicest way I can\u00a0<\/span>explain it without getting too graphic.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Did these clinics dispose of the babies in a responsible way?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: We had a truck that would come once a week. And they would take arms, and\u00a0<\/span>legs, and heads and torsos. Sometimes someone would think that they were doing\u00a0<\/span>something really funny and put all the hands together, all the feet together, all the legs\u00a0<\/span>together, or all the heads together. This was a very sick guy.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Were these placed in a bag or something?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: In jars, or a freezer bag or whatever we had handy. I\u2019ve seen children\u2019s tiny little\u00a0<\/span>bodies cut up and sloughed on the floor like cord wood. And the stench was awful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: What impact do you feel like this debate is having in our society today?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: No one debates abortion anymore\u2014not that I know of, or the circles that I know.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Do you feel like the pendulum is swinging back?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Yeah, the pendulum is swinging back in our direction. There\u2019s no doubt about\u00a0<\/span>that\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Just for the record, and I\u2019m sure you\u2019re asked this all the time, but what is your\u00a0<\/span>view on abortion today?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Well, sitting here on May 17th, 2006, I am ultimately pro-life. I don\u2019t believe\u00a0<\/span>in abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Those are amazing words given that it was her signature that caused legalized\u00a0<\/span>abortion to land on the Supreme Court\u2019s docket.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Making the Change to Pro-Life<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Norma\u2019s change to pro-life is primarily attributed to a perseverant seven-year old girl\u00a0<\/span>named Emily. At the sound of her name, Norma\u2019s eyes lit up as she began telling us how\u00a0<\/span>Emily\u2019s parents worked for a pro-life organization and they moved into the office next to\u00a0<\/span>the abortion clinic where she was working. Every single time Emily saw Norma she\u00a0<\/span>would invite her to church with them. Norma said that initially she would make excuses\u2014\u00a0<\/span>but pretty soon she ran out of excuses, and so she decided to go. Thanks to the\u00a0<\/span>repeated invitations of a seven-year old she walked into a church building [and she\u00a0<\/span>would add that \u201cthankfully the roof did not cave in!\u201d], and her life has never been\u00a0<\/span>the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: What are the milestones as you see them in your life? Things that as you look\u00a0<\/span>back you say: \u201cYes, that was a turning point.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: There have been so many things that it would be hard to name just one. I do\u00a0<\/span>remember having lunch with Rhonda (Emily\u2019s mom)\u2014and Emily and Chelsea were\u00a0<\/span>there. And we were going to look for furniture for the CPC (crisis pregnancy center\u2014\u00a0FP<\/span>) that Rhonda was running. So we went over to this business place where I used\u00a0<\/span>to go get all of my furniture and things. Rhonda had already told me her story of being\u00a0<\/span>pregnant out of wedlock, and her parents and her finance\u2019s parents encouraged her to\u00a0<\/span>have an abortion. So she made the appointment. When she realized what she was\u00a0<\/span>about to do she realized that what she was about to do was the same thing that some\u00a0<\/span>of her high school girlfriends had done\u2014and she recalled how different they were \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

She canceled her appointment and decided to have Emily. She had Emily six weeks\u00a0<\/span>premature. So you have to picture that we were standing in front of this early Orange\u00a0<\/span>Crate furniture store. And I went out to the street and was looking at some wingback\u00a0<\/span>chairs. They looked pretty original. So, just as I was turning around, Emily was coming\u00a0<\/span>around the side of the van like this, and Rhonda had a bumper sticker in the back of the\u00a0<\/span>van that said \u201cAbortion stops a beating heart.\u201d And it just blew my mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Wow. So you get to see not only her child who was almost aborted, plus a\u00a0<\/span>bumper sticker reminding you of life?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: I told Emily to come run to Nana real quick. And she never questioned me. She\u00a0<\/span>came running. And I just hugged her, and I thought \u201cI never want to let her go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

A Call to Action<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Norma now spends every waking moment trying to \u201cundo\u201d what was done over thirty\u00a0<\/span>years ago. She has dedicated her life to trying to stop this holocaust. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

FP:\u00a0<\/strong>What should Christians do? What should we be doing?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Well everyone needs to be active. I think we need to hear it from the pulpit first.\u00a0<\/span>We have a lot of preachers out there who still won\u2019t talk about abortion. It\u2019s beginning\u00a0<\/span>to have a real effect on their church lives. They go to church and they want to hear\u00a0<\/span>about Jesus, and about His miracles. But we have to face reality. There are issues out\u00a0<\/span>here like abortion and euthanasia that have to be dealt with.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: And to young people or the average Christian sitting in a pew?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Well, they can be responsible for themselves by being respectful to young women.\u00a0<\/span>They can volunteer at crisis pregnancy centers. I don\u2019t see anything wrong with that.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Do you think we should be teaching abstinence or offer birth control\u00a0<\/span>to young people. Do you feel like \u2018schools offering birth control\u2019 is taking\u00a0<\/span>us in the wrong direction?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: Well, see you\u2019ve got Planned Parenthood\u2014who I call Planned Death, because\u00a0<\/span>when you really stop and think about it how many parents have you ever seen that have\u00a0<\/span>come out of Planned Parenthood? Ironically, Consumer Reports demonstrated that\u00a0<\/span>Planned Parenthood supplies the least effective condoms\u2014the ones with the worst\u00a0<\/span>performance. <\/span><\/p>\n

We have so many incidents in the pro-life movement that have kind of soured\u00a0<\/span>people\u2019s minds. Like chaining themselves to clinic doors, blowing them up.<\/span><\/p>\n

FP: Or shooting people\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NM<\/strong>: A lot of church people don\u2019t want to get involved. I\u2019ve been told if you hadn\u2019t been\u00a0<\/span>with Operation Rescue we would have asked you to come speak at our church. I told\u00a0<\/span>them \u201crescue\u201d was my testimony. I\u2019ve been spit at, nearly run over. I\u2019ve been cussed\u00a0<\/span>at. I\u2019ve been cussed out in several different languages.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Norma insists that we need to \u201cget active\u201d\u2014even in the face of persecution.\u00a0<\/span>Because lives are at stake. We must ask ourselves (and our neighbors), what is\u00a0<\/span>ultimately more important\u2014the idea of \u201cchoice\u201d or obeying Jehovah God? If we put\u00a0<\/span>\u201cself\u201d and personal wishes over the tenants of God, then we indeed live in a society\u00a0<\/span>which has abandoned His instructions on the sanctity of life and no longer deserves His\u00a0<\/span>blessings. It\u2019s like David Kupelian wrote in his excellent book on America\u2019s societal ills,\u00a0<\/span>The Marketing of Evil:<\/span><\/p>\n

In America today, the unborn baby is the obvious victim of the abortion holocaust.\u00a0<\/span>But there are other victims. Vulnerable young women are deceived by\u00a0<\/span>manipulative and unscrupulous \u201chealth professionals\u201d into believing their\u00a0<\/span>unborn babies are not human, only to find out too late, in the recovery room\u00a0<\/span>or shortly thereafter, that they ended the lives of their children. What crueler\u00a0<\/span>trick could one play? In truth, millions of people who think of themselves as\u00a0<\/span>pro-choice are victims of sophisticated marketing campaigns designed to\u00a0<\/span>appeal to their deepest feelings about freedom and equality while simultaneously\u00a0<\/span>hooking them through powerful appeals to their selfishness (page 208).<\/span><\/p>\n

Our time with Norma was a short couple of hours, but her words and the experiences\u00a0<\/span>she shared with us will stay with us for a lifetime. However, the efforts she\u2019s making to\u00a0<\/span>change hearts and minds will have the limited results that only one person can produce.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s time we all get involved.\u00a0<\/span>With some 48 million innocent, tiny lives ended with such calloused barbarism in the\u00a0<\/span>last 36 years its little wonder we are where we are in today\u2019s society. Forty-eight million\u00a0<\/span>children we will never know have been killed and millions of young women have been\u00a0<\/span>psychologically wounded \u2013 women who made the \u201cchoice\u201d to destroy a life with a doctor\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>help. <\/span><\/p>\n

As a nation we will be forever scarred by this \u201clegalized\u201d atrocity. The time\u00a0<\/span>is now for us to begin educating the masses on the value and beginning of life. We must\u00a0<\/span>break the spell our society finds itself under by speaking up and pointing to the facts.\u00a0<\/span>Who will stand in the gap on behalf of children, life, and the women who have themselves\u00a0<\/span>suffered as a result of horribly wrong Supreme Court ruling and the fiendishly\u00a0<\/span>clever marketing of the sin we call abortion?<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
